What is Stainless Steel 316H Tube?

Stainless Steel 316H tube is the high carbon variant of the 316 austenitic family. It shares the same base chemistry: 16 to 18% chromium, 10 to 14% nickel, and 2 to 3% molybdenum. Carbon is the only real point of difference. Standard 316 caps carbon at 0.08%, while the H grade holds a controlled band of 0.04 to 0.10%. That extra carbon forms stable carbides inside the grain structure, which is why 316H keeps its creep rupture strength through continuous service at 870°C. Minimum tensile strength sits at 515 MPa against a 205 MPa yield. The grade also specifies a coarser grain size, ASTM No. 6 or coarser, and resists sulfuric acid in process piping.
