Stainless Steel pipe 304 is made from iron, chromium, and nickel alloy. SS 304 Welded Pipes are generally weldable using common fusion and resistance welding methods. While strip sections in SS 304 EFW Pipes can be air-cooled, heavier sections should be water-quenched to reduce exposure in the carbide precipitation range.

Lower carbon in Stainless Steel 304 ERW Pipes minimizes chromium carbide precipitation due to welding and its susceptibility to intergranular corrosion. In many instances, SS 304 Seamless Pipes can be used in the as-welded condition, while SS 302 must be annealed to retain adequate corrosion resistance. The maximum temperature to which Type 304 Pipes can be exposed continuously without appreciable scaling is about 1650 degrees F (899 Degrees C). Meanwhile, the maximum temperature for intermittent exposure in 304 Stainless Steel Pipes is about 1500 Degrees F (816 Degrees C). 304 Grade Stainless Steel pipe is available in several industries like chemical, distilleries & sugar mills, fats & fertilizer, cement, paper, pumps, shipbuilders, oil & natural gas, petrochemicals, etc.
The manufacturers use different international standards to manufacture these pipes; some are ASTM A/ ASME SA213, A249, A269, A312, A358, CL.I- V, and UNS S30400, the material grade. The standard 304 stainless steel pipe dimensions vary from ½" NB to 16"NB; the diameter is 6.00 mm to 914.4 mm. Thickness varies from 0.3 mm to 50 mm and can be customized per the client's requirement. Round, square, rectangular, spiral and seamless, ERW, welded, fabricated, and CDW shapes and form of pipes, respectively. These pipes are manufactured by advanced machines and treated with heat treatment to attain high strength and surface finish.

The yield strength for 304 stainless steel is 215 MPa. The corrosion resistance of 304 stainless steel pipe makes it a great choice for sanitary applications. Charpy impacts are a crucial aspect of rust resistance assessment. They measure how much energy a material absorbs if it is subject to a great force. The test simulates a brittle- or ductile failure scenario. This is done by swinging a pendulum into a sample of the same material. A gauge measures the energy transfer from the pendulum into the steel.
A material with a low Charpy Impact score is hardier and could fracture if struck by a strong force from a pendulum. 304 stainless steel pipe is extremely resistant to many corrosive media. It is vulnerable to pitting and crevice corrosion in warm chloride environments. Stress corrosion cracking can also occur in water containing 400 mg/L chlorides at ambient temperature. This is not an issue in most industrial settings. However, corrosion resistance is required in certain cases to protect your product against damage from seawater and other elements.
Many applications can be made of ASTM A312 TP304 Pipe. Its resistance to corrosion makes it an attractive choice for many industrial applications. It can be found in automobiles, commercial equipment, and as an architectural trim in high-rise structures. This pipe is machine and weldable and offers excellent corrosion resistance.
