No pre-heat should be used in these SS 904L pipe and in most cases post weld heat treatment is also not required. Type 904L Pipes is designed for harsh environments of the corrosion conditions. As the high chromium, nickel, molybdenum and copper content, Grade 904L pipes has excellent corrosion resistance. Such as the uniform corrosion, especially in dilute sulfuric acid. The addition of copper to 904L SS Pipes gives it greatly improved resistance to strong reducing acids, particularly sulphuric acid. Alloy 904L Pipes does have very substantial contents of the high cost ingredients nickel and molybdenum. 904L seamless pipes is also highly resistant to chloride attack pitting/crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.
Stainless steel 904L welded pipes is a high purity, low sulphur grade, and as such will not machine well. Many of the applications in which stainless steel 904L EFW pipes has previously performed well can be fulfilled at lower cost, so it is used less commonly than in the past. Initially SS 904L seamless pipes is developed for corrosion resistance in sulfuric acid. SS 904L welded pipes is non-magnetic in all conditions and has excellent weldability and formability. In most environments SS 904L EFW pipes has a corrosion performance intermediate between the standard austenitic grade of SS 316L pipe and the very highly alloyed 6 percent molybdenum and similar austenitic grades.
