Silver Tubes is one of the prominent production house and trader of SMO 254 / Alloy 254 / UNS S31254 / 6MO Sheets and Plates, which are susceptible to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in chloride bearing solutions at temperatures above about 60 Degree C (140 Degree F). SMO 254 Sheets susceptibility declines with increasing nickel content, where chromium contents above 20 % can also be beneficial. Alloy 254 Sheets exhibits very good resistance to SCC, both in laboratory tests and in practice. The substantial chromium content gives UNS S31254 Sheets outstanding resistance to oxidizing chemicals and to high-temperature oxidizing gases. Work hardening, precipitation hardening, and solid-solution hardening are performed for strengthening these 6MO Sheets. In various types of high-temperature water, 254 SMO Sheets displays low corrosion rates and excellent resistance to stress-corrosion cracking.

SMO 254 Plates is often used in high temperature burners, duct work, petrochemical heaters and furnaces. Alloy 254 Plates has excellent resistance to stress-corrosion cracking. Conventional machining techniques used for UNS S31254 Plates may be used. 6MO Plates does work-harden during machining and has higher strength and "gumminess" not typical of steels. Most of the applications of 254 SMO Plates are in the chemical industries. The addition of the small amount of palladium in SMO 254 Coils is to ennoble the corrosion potential of Ti, thus improving the corrosion resistance of titanium in reducing environments.
