In normal welding operations, heat input to SMO 254 Rods takes place for a much shorter time. This is true for both solutions annealed and cold worked material in UNS S31254 Rods, as well as for welded joints. 6MO Rods have good creep and oxidation resistance. 254 SMO Rods are also known as high performance alloys, and can be formed in different shapes. In addition to its corrosion resistance, SMO 254 Bars has high strength, good metallurgical stability and favourable fabrication characteristics.

The considerable content of chromium gives Alloy 254 Bars exceptional resistance to oxidizing chemicals and to soaring-temp oxidizing gases. UNS S31254 Bars is a basic nickel-chromium alloy for corrosive and / or high temperature applications. Meanwhile, the high chromium content makes 6MO Bars very resistant to attack from oxidizing chemicals or hot gases. Also, the high chromium content gives 254 SMO Bars excellent resistance to aqueous corrosion by oxidizing acids (especially nitric acid) and salts and to sulfidation at high-temperatures.
