Stainless Steel 347 Pipe Flanges has slightly improved corrosion resistance over stainless steel 321in strongly oxidizing environments. Stainless Steel 347H Pipe Flanges has a slightly improved corrosion resistance over other alloys of stainless steel in strongly oxidizing environments as a result of the addition of columbium (niobium) and tantalum. Alloy 347H Flanges is the higher carbon (0.04 – 0.10) version of the material. Alloy 347 Flanges was developed for enhanced creep resistance and for higher strength at temperatures above 1000 Degree F (537 Degree C). Type 347 Flanges does not perform well in chloride solutions, even in small concentrations, or in sulfuric acid.
Type 347H Flanges should be considered for applications requiring intermittent heating between 800 Degree F (427 Degree C) and 1650 Degree F (899 Degree C), or for welding under conditions which prevent a post-weld anneal. Grade 347 Flanges cannot be hardened by heat treatment, only by cold working. Grade 347H Flanges can be easily welded and processed by standard shop fabrication practices. Heavy welded sections in 347 Stainless Steel Flanges require post-weld annealing for maximum corrosion resistance. This titanium addition in 347H Stainless Steel Flanges reduces or prevents carbide precipitation during welding and in the 800 Degree F – 1500 Degree F service conditions.
